Vegas Strong Benefit Concert—People helping people

Vegas Strong Benefit Concert—People helping people

Pride…that was the buzz Fri., Dec. 1, at the Vegas Strong Benefit Concert. Celebrities who call Las Vegas home and their fans filled the T-Mobile Arena to show their strength and love for those affected by the Oct. 1 shooting on the Las Vegas Strip. They also came to have some fun too.

Born and raised in Las Vegas, Dan Reynolds, the frontman for Imagine Dragons, was emotional when he took a moment on stage to share his thoughts. “Today more than ever, this month more than ever, I am more proud to be from this city. I love Las Vegas. I love everything we stand for and may we continue to represent to the world how we’ve come together, how we have supported the victims, their families. How we have put our arms around each other.”

Jason Aldean, Blue Man Group, Kurt Busch, Boyz II Men, Carrot Top, Cirque du Soleil, David Copperfield, Celine Dion, Bryce Harper, Imagine Dragons, Elton John, The Killers, Las Vegas Golden Knights, Jay Leno, Wayne Newton, Penn & Teller and George Strait united to raise funds for the victims of the shooting on the Strip. A few—Celine Dion, Elton John and Jason Aldean—shared the love via video.

When talking to reporters Jay Leno gave the real credit to first responders  “For celebrities it’s easy, you go on stage, you tell a few jokes and people say thank you. But really, it’s the first responders that deserve all the credit.”

Money raised will go to the Las Vegas Victims Fund, a fund started by Steve Sisolak, the Clark County Commission Chair, and overseen by an appointed county panel. To date $11,688,900  dollars has been raised. Another approximate $5 from the     will bring the total to $16 plus million. Donations are still coming in online, every few hours another person donates. And that’s what’s great about America. In two months, 88,050 people have donated, reaching out to help people that most of them don’t even know.

As Penn Jillette said, “You always come back to Mr. Rogers who said, when children were upset about a horrible thing that happened, ‘Look for the helpers. We had one very bad person and about 7 billion helpers.”
